Leaks and burst pipes

A slow drip under the sink or a weeping joint behind a radiator might seem minor, but water finds its way into timber and plasterboard faster than you'd think. We deal with leaks at every scale: a compression fitting that's worked loose, a hairline crack in copper pipe, a push-fit joint that's popped apart in a loft. The repair is almost always straightforward. The mistake is leaving it.

Burst pipes are different. They need attention now. If you've got water coming out of a wall or ceiling, turn off the stop tap first, then call us. We'll treat it as urgent. For anything that can't wait, see our emergency callout service.

Older properties across Dorset and Devon often have pipework that's been repaired piecemeal over decades. Sometimes we arrive to fix one joint and find the surrounding pipework is in poor shape. We'll tell you what we found and give you the options: repair the joint, repair the section, or consider a larger replumb if the system's genuinely past it.

Taps, valves and cisterns

A dripping tap isn't just annoying. It wastes water. The repair is usually a washer or cartridge, but not always: mixer taps with ceramic cartridges, thermostatic bar valves, pillar taps on old-fashioned basins all have their own quirks. We carry a wide range of parts and can usually sort it in a single visit.

Running cisterns are similar. A toilet that constantly trickles or refills every few minutes is a ballcock or flap valve that's on its way out. Easy enough to fix, and worth doing before it gets worse. Faulty gate valves and service valves that won't fully close are another common call-out, particularly on older properties where the valves haven't been touched in years.

If you've got a drain blockage alongside the repair, we can look at that in the same visit.

Water pressure problems

Low pressure affects everything: showers that trickle, taps that take an age to fill a bath, combination boilers that cut out because the pressure is too low. The cause might be a partially closed service valve, a failing pressure-reducing valve, a blockage in the pipework, or an issue with the incoming supply from the street.

We work through it methodically. There's no point replacing parts without understanding what's causing the drop. High pressure is also worth checking: mains pressure that's too high causes constant wear on washers, valves and the boiler itself. A pressure-reducing valve fitted to the incoming supply sorts that cleanly.
