Internal drain blockages
Most internal blockages are in the trap or the short waste run immediately downstream from a fitting. Kitchen sinks build up fat and food waste. Bathroom basins and shower trays get hair and soap scum. Toilets block with waste and, sometimes, things that shouldn't have been flushed.
A lot of these clear in minutes with the right tool and a bit of know-how. We carry rods, drain machines and a pressure jetter, so we can work through the options without making multiple trips. If the blockage is further down the waste run, into a shared stack or towards the external drain, we work through that systematically.
If you've got an associated plumbing repair needed alongside the unblocking, we can deal with both in the same visit.
External and sewer drains
External blockages are a different problem. Tree roots in older clay drainage runs are common across rural Dorset and Devon, especially in older properties where the drain layout was never surveyed. Fat and food waste solidifying in the run between house and the sewer. Collapsed sections. Displaced joints that have let in grit and silt over years.
We rod and jet external drains, clear interceptor chambers, and inspect manholes to work out where the blockage actually is before we start. For recurring or unusual blockages, a CCTV camera inspection tells you quickly what you're dealing with, especially if there's any question about the drain structure itself.
It's also worth checking leak detection if you've had recurring wet ground near a drain run, as root intrusion and collapsed sections can cause both blockages and leaks.
Recurring blockages
If the same drain blocks every few months, there's a reason. It's not just bad luck. Partial blockages that clear enough to drain but build back up, a section of pipe with insufficient fall, a joint that's shifted slightly so it catches debris. These are worth finding properly rather than just clearing again and again.
We'll give you an honest assessment of what's going on. Sometimes the fix is quick. Sometimes the drain needs a section relaid. Either way, you'll know what you're dealing with before we quote.
