Kitchen fitting & refurbishment, done properly

A kitchen is the most-used room in the house, and a badly fitted one shows up every single day. OWB Plumbing & Building handles kitchen installs and full refurbishments across Dorset, Devon and Somerset, from a straightforward swap-out of an old unit layout to a full gutting-and-remodel of a rural farmhouse kitchen. Kitchens are our own work: the strip-out, first-fix plumbing, unit assembly, worktops, tiling, appliance fit and final silicone all done by the same team. For plastering, electrical sign-off and decorating we bring in trusted trades we've worked with for years.

New kitchen installations

Whether you're replacing a tired kitchen or fitting one in a newly-converted space, we handle the whole installation: stripping out the old, adapting pipework and electrics, assembling and levelling units, fitting worktops (laminate, solid wood, quartz and solid surface), plumbing in sinks, taps and appliances, and finishing with splashbacks and silicone. We fit kitchens from Howdens, Wren, B&Q and others, as well as kitchens from independent local suppliers.

Kitchen refurbishments

Not every kitchen needs a complete rebuild. Sometimes a new worktop, new tap, new sink, a re-plaster and a repaint transforms a room for a fraction of the cost. We'll give you honest advice on what's worth doing, what's better left alone, and what would actually give you the biggest difference for the money.

Kitchen plumbing

Moving a sink, adding a dishwasher or washing machine, installing a boiling-water tap, fitting an instant-hot filter system, plumbing a new island unit, or reworking old pipework to modern copper and plastic push-fit. This is our day-job. We know where the pitfalls are and how to avoid them.

Sinks, taps & appliances

Belfast sinks, undermount stainless, composite granite, twin bowls with drainers. We fit the lot, and we'll be honest about which styles handle the daily grind best. Taps from basic mixers through to Quooker boiling-water systems. Appliance connections for washers, dryers, dishwashers, fridge freezers, wine coolers and waste disposal units.

Tiling, plastering & the supporting trades

Tiling is part of our kitchen work. Plastering, electrical sign-off and decorating come from a small circle of trusted local trades we've worked with for years. We schedule them properly around our own work: the plasterer showing up when first-fix is done, the electrician arriving at the right stage. One schedule, one point of contact, one clear plan.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a kitchen fit take?
A straightforward kitchen fit usually takes 5–10 working days once the units have arrived: a day to rip out, a couple of days for first-fix plumbing and electrical, unit assembly and levelling, worktop fitting, then final plumbing, appliances, splashbacks and sealing. More complex layouts or full refurbishments can run longer.
Do you supply the kitchen or do I?
Either works. We fit kitchens you've bought from Howdens, Wren, B&Q and other suppliers, and we can advise on what fits well. If you'd rather we sourced it, we work with a local kitchen supplier at competitive rates.
Do you handle plastering, electrics and decorating too?
Tiling is part of our kitchen work and we do it ourselves. For plastering, electrical sign-off and decorating we bring in trusted trades we've worked with for years, scheduled properly so the job doesn't stall.
Can we stay in the house while the kitchen is out of action?
Most people do. We'll help you set up a temporary cooking and washing-up area and plan the schedule so the kitchen is out of use for the shortest possible time. In most homes the worst stretch is 3–5 days.
