When it goes wrong, call someone local
Emergencies don't wait for a convenient time. A burst pipe on a winter Sunday, a boiler giving up on the coldest night of the year, a blocked drain flooding into a utility room: these are the calls we take. OWB Plumbing & Building is a family-run business based near Dorchester, and we cover emergency callouts across the whole of Dorset, Devon and Somerset, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Call 07984 856177. If we're on another job, we'll tell you straight. If we're the right people for you, we'll give you a realistic arrival time rather than a vague promise.
Emergencies we handle
Burst pipes & severe leaks
A burst pipe can cause thousands of pounds of damage within hours. First thing to do: turn off your stop tap (usually under the kitchen sink, in a utility cupboard, or near the front of the house). Then call us. We carry the fittings, pipework and tools to make a permanent repair in most cases, not just a temporary patch that leaks again next week.
No hot water or heating in winter
Cold homes in December and January aren't an inconvenience. They're a health risk, especially if there are older people or young children in the house. If your boiler has given up, call us. We'll do everything we can to get you back up and running the same day, even if that means sourcing a part overnight.
Blocked toilets & drains
A single blocked toilet in a household with one bathroom is an emergency. An overflowing external drain in winter rain is an emergency. We'll clear what can be cleared on the spot and be straight with you about anything that needs follow-up work.
Boiler failures & pressure faults
Boilers that won't fire up, repeated pressure drops, error codes you've never seen before, unusual banging or hissing: turn the boiler off at its isolator switch and call us. We'll diagnose properly on arrival and give you a fixed price before any repair.
Uncontainable water leaks
Leaks that you can't isolate, water coming through a ceiling, a tank overflow running day and night: call. If it's safe to, turn off the stop tap and the electricity at the consumer unit if water is anywhere near wiring.
What to do while you wait
- Leak or burst pipe: turn off the stop tap (usually under the kitchen sink or in a utility).
- Boiler fault: turn off the boiler at its isolator switch; do not keep topping up pressure.
- Gas smell: open windows, don't use switches or flames, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 first.
- Electrical near water: turn off the consumer unit before approaching.
- Move valuables and soft furnishings away from leaks or damp areas.
- Take photos for insurance, dated and from a few angles.
