Wall-mounted air conditioning used to be the preserve of offices and hotel rooms. It's become a practical choice for homes across Dorset, Devon and Somerset, particularly as summers have grown less predictable. A properly sized and installed unit makes a real difference in south-facing bedrooms, conservatories, home offices, and rooms that become uncomfortable by mid-afternoon in July.
We install split air conditioning systems for single rooms and multi-split systems where one outdoor unit serves several indoor units across the house. Survey and quote are free. F-Gas registered, so all refrigerant work is handled legally and to the required standard.
Cool in summer. Warm in winter.
This is the part that surprises a lot of people. Modern air conditioning units are reverse-cycle systems: they don't just cool a room, they move heat. In summer, they extract heat from inside and push it outside. In winter, they reverse the process, extracting heat from outside air and moving it in, even when temperatures are well below freezing.
The efficiency of this process (measured as COP, coefficient of performance) typically gives you 3 to 4 units of heat for every unit of electricity used. That's meaningfully cheaper to run than electric storage heaters or electric panel heaters for the same output, and once the unit is installed, the heating function comes at no extra cost. For holiday lets, that can also simplify the guest experience considerably.
It's not a replacement for a central heating system in most homes. But as a supplement for specific rooms, or as the primary heating and cooling solution for a converted garage or home office, it works well.
System types we install
Wall-mounted split systems
The most common choice for a single room. One outdoor condenser unit, one indoor wall-mounted unit. Quiet in operation, controllable by remote or smartphone app, and relatively unobtrusive once installed. The indoor unit is usually fitted high on an external wall; the outdoor unit goes on a bracket on the external wall, flat roof, or ground level depending on access. We work out the best position during the survey.
Multi-split systems
One outdoor unit connected to two, three, or four indoor units in different rooms. Cheaper than running separate single systems for each room, and only one penetration through the external wall for refrigerant lines. Works well for houses where you want control in several rooms without separate outdoor units on every elevation.
Ceiling cassette systems
Suited to larger open-plan rooms, commercial spaces, or rooms with a ceiling void where a wall unit wouldn't distribute air evenly across the space. Less common in domestic settings but sometimes the right answer for a large kitchen-diner or an office extension.

We're F-Gas registered, which is the legal requirement for handling refrigerants. It isn't something all installers hold, so it's worth checking before booking anyone.
What it's right for
Air conditioning works best where you need reliable temperature control in a specific space, rather than across an entire house.
- Bedrooms and living rooms: overnight comfort in summer is the most common request
- Home offices: most people don't notice how warm a south-facing office gets until it affects their ability to concentrate
- Conservatories: the classic problem space, often unusable for months of the year without some form of climate control
- Garages and workshops: particularly useful where tools or materials need temperature regulation, not just comfort
- Home gyms: easier to train in a space that doesn't become a sauna by August
- Holiday lets and rental properties: summer comfort ratings affect bookings directly; winter heating flexibility can reduce energy costs
- House renovations and refurbishments: a good time to plan the install before rooms are finished
Pricing
Air conditioning installation starts from £1,750 for a single-room wall-mounted system, including supply and installation. Multi-room systems with multiple indoor units vary depending on the number of units, cable and pipe runs, and any access complications. We quote in person after the survey so the price you get reflects the actual job, not a generic estimate.
